Motorized Window Treatment Trends for Denver Summer 2026

What is changing in motorized window treatments this summer. Battery life, voice control, scenes, and the features actually worth paying for.

Motorization has quietly become the default request on roughly two-thirds of new Blinds Couture projects this spring. Going into summer 2026, the conversation has shifted from "should I motorize" to "which platform and which features." Here is what we are specifying right now, and what we are skipping.

Battery life finally caught up

Current generation lithium tubes are running 18 to 24 months on a single charge for typical bedroom cycles. That number was closer to 8 months three years ago. For most Denver homes, battery is now a reasonable answer even for daily-use shades.

Hardwired still wins for the right project

If your home is in the framing or drywall stage, hardwired is still the right call. No battery swaps, cleaner reveal, and seamless integration with Lutron, Control4, or Crestron. We see this most often in Lone Tree new construction and Castle Pines estate builds.

Voice and scene control: what is actually useful

Worth the spend

  • Sunrise and sunset scenes. Shades raise with the sun, lower at dusk. Set once, forget forever.
  • A single "good morning" voice command that lifts bedroom and bath shades at once.
  • A "movie" scene that drops blackouts in the media room.

Skip it

  • Individual shade voice commands by name. Nobody remembers the name of shade four.
  • Wall-mounted touch panels in every room. The app and a single keypad cover 95 percent of use.

What works with what

Hunter Douglas PowerView, Lutron Serena, and Somfy all play well with HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home. The trick is picking one ecosystem and staying inside it. Mixing two motor brands in one home almost always becomes a support headache.

Summer-specific scenes we are programming

For Denver summers we lean on two scenes most. A pre-noon "south-side drop" that puts west-facing solar shades down before the heat hits, and an evening "open up" that lifts everything at 7:30 PM for the cool air. Pair this with the strategy in our summer window treatments guide and the cooling bill drops noticeably.
