Guide in Using Solar Screen Roller Shades | Blinds Couture

When it comes to window coverings and treatments, the variety of choices is endless. There are so many types of blinds and shades that sometimes, picking the right one for your house and functionality requirements can be tricky. And because every one of them has its benefits and drawbacks, the only way to truly find the perfect match is to first learn about the various available options.

For that reason, today, we will discover a well-known type of shades: solar screen shades. Before we go into details, however, let's' first take a look at the difference between regular roller shades and solar screen roller shades.

Roller shades

Roller shades are a solid sheet of material that covers a window and is brought down with a roller function. Roller shades, unlike other window coverings such as blinds, do not have slats and consist simply of a panel of fabric (or fabric-like) material. They are, in fact, one of the most common types of window coverings used in households. The variety of roller shades lies in many things like the type of material used, the color, or the style.

Solar screen roller shades

Solar screen shades are a type of roller shades that are designed with a specific material that protects your house from UV lights while still optimizing your view. These shades are made from a woven, mesh-like material that blocks the glare from the sun. The ultimate goal of solar shades is to allow you to regulate the temperature of your home by reducing the amount of heat that is inside.

How to pick solar shades in Denver

Many factors come into play while picking solar shades. Depending on its openness level and the type of fabric chosen, the benefits will be somewhat different.

Openness

The openness of solar shades refers to how tightly the fabric is woven. The higher the openness level, the looser the fabric is woven. In other words, by picking a lower openness level, more UV lights will be blocked. But it also means lower visibility.

Fortunately, solar shades often come in different openness levels ranging from 0% to 14%, so you have many options from which to choose.

Fabric type

Solar screen shades fabric types fall into three main categories that each offers a specific benefit when used.

Light-colored solar shades: The lighter the color of the solar shade's fabric, the more effective it is at reflecting heat. To optimize visibility and allow for the more natural light to enter your home, 80% solar screens or light-colored shades are the best choice there is.

Dark-colored solar shades: These shades, known as 90% solar shades are excellent at providing glare control because they reduce the amount of visible light that comes through the window. They are a great choice for increased daytime privacy and heat blockage.

High-performance solar shades: These shades are, in a way, the best of both worlds. They not only provide a significant amount of glare and heat reduction but also allow for excellent visibility. For many, high-performance solar shades are the optimal choice for commercial buildings or homes with large windows.

Privacy factor

One of the main things to keep in mind while shopping for solar shades is that when it comes to privacy, the same way you can see through the fabric during the day, outsiders can see the interior of your home at night. This is simply because once night falls and the lights are turned on, the solar shades work the opposite way.

In order to increase privacy in your home, you can either add a liner to your shades or invest in curtains to layer them.

To make your house more personalized and stylish, window treatments and coverings are one of the best options out there. They are the jewelry of the home. But whether you are looking for norman blinds and shades, or something more specific like solar shades, taking the time to learn about them and their benefits is always a necessary step.

In late 2022, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced it that, for reasons of safety, corded window coverings could longer be manufactured in the United States, beginning in June 2024. The window coverings industry and consumer demand has been slowly progressing in this direction since the early 2000s, with the advent of cordless blinds, motorized window coverings and smart home technology. With the 2022 announcement, this necessity for progress has dramatically accelerated, and manufacturers are sprinting to catch up.
